MP Concerned Over Gracemead House Closure In Hatfield

Grant Shapps has said he is worried for people's jobs as yet another Government service is cut

Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, the tax and benefits department, has announced it will be closing its office at Gracemead House in Hatfield, leading to job cuts. It will also involve a reduction of services as HMRC Herts moves almost entirely to Watford.

Grant said: "This is another piece of bad news for Hatfield. The Government moving its services out of our area means job cuts and public services cuts. We've seen this before, with the Government taking everything but the kitchen sink out of Hatfield. This is just another step in that process. I'm seriously concerned not only for the loss of these services, but also for the extra people who may lose their jobs as a result."

Hatfield currently has over 350 unemployed people claiming benefits, with 3 of its 5 wards ranking in the top 75 worst-hit areas for unemployment.
