 | MP champions support for fledging King George FC |
 |
MP for Welwyn Hatfield, Grant Shapps, has pledged his full support for getting youngsters who live in the vicinity of King George V Playing Fields involved in a newly formed local Football Club
King George Football Club in Welwyn Garden City has seen an explosion of youngsters signing up to the club in this its first year and it now boasts more than 11 teams who will play in the Mid-Herts Rural Minors League with over 250 passionate young members registering an interest.
Now the fledging club needs support from the community and the local MP has pledged to support their cause.
Grant said: "There's a tremendous opportunity to get a large number of youngsters involved in a great new football club and it almost seems strange that KGV hasn't previously boasted a club of its own. What is needed now is the backing of the whole community and I know that the football club are on the lookout for much-needed funds and volunteer coaches in order to ensure that they can continue to prosper and grow."
Faced with the amazing response from the community, the club which is supported mostly through the generosity of parents needs funding for more equipment and, in particular, a new kitchen to cater for its ever-growing membership.
Anyone interested in providing support to the new football club should contact Martin Williams by email on martin.williams@kinggeorgefc.co.uk or by phone on 0845 467 5354.
